A lot of great things can be said about Catie Wurster (as well as the rest of the Wurster clan). She’s a very active and giving individual in the artistic community here in Plattsburgh, and chances are that you’ve seen her downtown carting around her stand up bass, playing with various groups in the area, including Doomfuck (check out the tape we recently posted). Here’s her responses to our Five Questions…

1. Who are you and what do you do?
I am Catherine B Harrison-Wurster… Or Catie… I play the stand up bass all around town. I am a barista at the Koffee Kat. Just an all around Community worker bee.
2. What does DIY mean to you?
Do it your damn self… It should be DIYDS!!!
3. Why should people choose the DIY method?
If you can put something together on your own, you can take it apart on your own, and it can always be salvageable, in some sort of way. If you want something done well, do it your damn self! Or ask someone who knows. Knowledge is incredibly powerful.
4. What do you want to get off of your chest right now?
I am so happy people are starting to gain knowledge of DIY. It is even in the media, with DIY home renovations, cooking, etc… It is becoming popular. Being aware is the first step… People are turning to DIY mostly because they are running low on funds. I personally want to avoid going to stores as much as possible… For a plethora of reasons. It is about consciously changing your mind set from, “Oh, I have to go to the store.” to first thinking, “How can I fix, or use what I already have available to me first.” Saves a lot of time, money, and energy.
5. Are there any people, places or ideas that you think folks should know about?
People in the North Country region should know about the ROTA Gallery, The North Country Food Co-op, and the awesome Himalaya Restaurant! Among other awesome places to be had in the downtown area…
